You might think this is unfair... but it's actually logical. Wouldn't you rather do business with someone you know, like and trust than with someone you don't know, like or trust? Of course, that doesn't help you much if you're an Outsider – if you DON'T know anyone inside the company - and you're wondering how to get a job with them! So what do you do if you're an "Outsider"? Well, you can try to be the best Outsider you possibly can be, and follow the various conventional "Outsider" approaches to getting a job. For example, you could follow the standard advice for getting a job and search the job listings on a jobs website or in the newspaper, then send in your cover letter and resume, and hope you get an interview. But who are you kidding? How will you get the job when you're competing against someone the company already knows or wants for the position? In other words, you can be an Outsider all you want... you can be the best Outsider possible... but if you're competing against an Insider you'll have a much lower chance of getting the job. All right, so how do you tilt the odds in your favor? Well, you aim to become an Insider in addition to using conventional methods to get the job. And even where you follow convention, you use certain "Insider strategies" to give yourself an edge. You know, where you spend day after day pouring through job listings... applying for countless jobs... sending numerous cover letters and versions of your resume to recruiters and companies... only to get a “we’ll keep your details on file” rejection letter... or an interview where the interviewer seems quite clear that you won’t be hired? It’s true. Trying to make a career change or looking for a job can be soul destroying. But it doesn’t have to be. Imagine the opposite scenario. Where you choose the organization you want to work for. Where you choose the job. Where you choose the people you work with. Where you choose your salary and benefits! In short, where you choose – and get – the job of your dreams. I know... it sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? (Or like I’m dreaming!) But the truth is, you can choose your ideal organization and job... and work with people you want to work with... and receive the salary and benefits you’re worth. In fact, you have many more career choices than you probably think. And that’s the point: it’s time to change what you think is possible – and how you think in general. It’s time to think like an Insider! Why? Because... Insiders Have The Best Chance Of Getting The Job.
