The photograph shows one of the many viaducts of the Semmering railway-the world’s first mountain railway (which is fully operational to this day), a UNESCO world heritage list. Given the highly complex terrain and significant elevation changes, the Semmering railway is one of the outstanding civil engineering achievements of the 19th century.
