The castle “Burg Rheinstein” is located next to Bingen, in front of the village Assmannshausen (located on the other side of the river “Rhein”). The castle was build as a toll castle in the late 13th century. Its purpose also was to protect the territory of Mainz in fight against the castles of the robber knights.
