The Vauban’s Masterpiece: the city of Neuf Brisach was erected ex Nihilo by order of the French King to protect the borders of the Kingdom from Prussia. The walled city was designed and built from scratch by Vauban, the king’s minister, to host a garrison, their families and all amenities that would be necessary to run a modern city. For years the city fortification have been maintained by the French Airmy (until recently) and now the task proves difficult to finance. Nevertheless, the place is a UNESCO World heritage site. A must see town. in Alsace, France.
