Dimitsana is built on an altitude of 950 meters, from the meridian side of which is a magnificent view of the valley of Megalopolis and Taygetos. It is the seat of the expanded municipality of Gortynia, until recently it was the seat of Dimitsana Municipality. Its history begins in the Homeric years, when the small Arcadian town of Tefthi was in its place.
