Sugar Loaf is a complex of hills located in the Urca and composed of the Sugar Loaf hill (which gives its name to the complex) and Urca hill of Babylon. Along with the statue of Christ the Redeemer is the largest postcard of the city of Rio de Janeiro and one of the most famous of Brazil. The unique features, flanked by the Guanabara Bay waters, constitutes an international tourist reference for the city.

It has as an additional attraction the cable car ride, linking the Red Beach and the Morro da Urca to Sugar Loaf. Known as Sugarloaf Cable Car, the cable car was designed in 1908 and opened in 1912, becoming the first lift installed in the country and third in the world. In over ninety years of existence, it has transported more than thirty million people. In the last cable car station has a panoramic view of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi.
