Lochranza, Isle of Arran, Scotland

The most beautiful place I have ever been to. My first visit to Scotland resulted in 24 hours on the island of Arran and the weather was perfect. Got to see stunning landscapes, red deer, seals, red squirrels and eagles. I met Alan from Arran, a cheery pipe smoking Scotsman living on the north of the island and he summed up what it’s like living there.
“When we first came over here I thought the winds would come in from the west but they ended up coming down the valley, a southerly, and they are absolutely horrendous in the winter. I remember phoning a friend and said ‘I think the house is about to take off!’ But to be fair you get that in the winter – you’ve got to accept that, live with it, and the summer more than makes up for it.”
