The Salton Sea was created by mistake over 100 years ago when the Colorado River overflowed a diversion dam for a couple of years. Since then, water has evaporated in the 115 degree summers, and the fresh water that evaporates is not replaced as the rainfall is around 5″ of rain each year. As the water became saltier and saltier, all the game fish died off and the area began looking like something out of a post-apocolyptic movie. Various government offices and officials keep promising to “fix” the Salton Sea, but nothing ever happens.
I have my own patent-pending solution, that you can read about below if you want, but no one seems to be paying my proposal any attention.
