Santa Clara´s Temple was built by Diego de Tapia, son of the founder of Querétaro, Fernando de Tapia, also known by his native name of Conin.
It was completed on August 12, 1668.
At the beginning of the War of Independence, it served as a prison for Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, a woman who began, along with other characters, the conspiracy of the Independence of Mexico.
