In July of 2019 I took the trip of a lifetime to Svalbard. I went fossil hunting, dog sledding, and, best of all, was one of three guests on the Spitzbergen Express on a 4-day tour of the oceans surrounding Svalbard. Even when the weather was bright and sunny I had on four layers, as at 79 degrees North lattitude, it was well below freezing. The guide explained to use that the glaciers in Svalbard are retreating every year, and that he had seen them move back from the ocean to several meters up onto the land.
