“The city of lakes” – so called Trakai – the historical capital of Lithuania. Here stands not only the pride of this city but also of the whole Lithuania – the only castle in Eastern Europe built in the island.
Do you believe in legends? People say that city of Trakai appeared because of the woman’s whim. Duke Kęstutis wife Birutė didn’t like Trakai, because there was not enough water next to her, as it was usual for her native city of Palanga.
Therefore Kęstutis, about the fourteenth century, order to build a new castle in the middle of a lake surrounded by water.
