Wildfire in Markleeville, California

The Washington wildfire burning 3 miles south of Markleeville, California as viewed from over Gardnerville, Nevada 30 miles to the north. The fire started June 19, 2015 as a result of a lightning strike. The fire is burning in hazardous and inaccessible terrain, and has burned into the Carson Iceberg Wilderness. To date it has burned 17,787 acres and is 56 percent contained. The fire is named after the Lady Washington Mine near the origination point.
