The Salton Sea is a relatively forgotten saltwater lake about 2 1/2 hours east of San Diego, CA. In the 1960’s, the Salton Sea was not so salty and was a more popular tourist destination than Yosemite. Today, the salt content is so high that only the hardy tilapia fish remain and it is in danger of evaporating away (which will expose Palm Springs and other nearby areas to intense and toxic dust storms).
